LIVING MEMORIES DAY (Veterans Day) Their Past Your
Future 2 Their Past Your Future 2 is the second phase of a
hugely successful programme that aims to provide innovative and creative
ways of increasing community learning and young people's knowledge and
understanding of the impact and contemporary significance of conflict.
This overarching aim encompasses themes of remembrance and commemoration,
identity and reconciliation, citizenship, diversity, asylum, conflict
resolution and peacekeeping.
Living
Memories The recording of peoples memories of conflict is a
key part of the programme and the Fleet Air Arm Museum has been chosen to
receive funding to create a collection of audio/visual stories that
capture the personal experiences of Fleet Air Arm personnel in the
twentieth century and contemporary conflicts, the impact felt at home by
loved ones and the influence that RNAS Yeovilton has had upon its local
community.
The Living Memories will be an important addition to
the Museum's audio-visual collection. They will also provide an additional
resource for Museum educational workshops and be available as an outreach
resource. The inclusion of women, loved ones and other cultures is a
significant extension of our current resources.
The Living
Memories Day - Sunday 29 June 2008 This free Family Learning
Event will provide an opportunity for visitors to exchange and discover
memories and to learn how to record family memories in various forms;
written, photographic, audio, moving images, family object collections,
blogs etc. Guidance will be available for those wishing to understand or
interpret a relative's service career. Emphasis will be given to the
value of inter-generational exchange; from old to young and vice versa.
The event will publicise the stories collected, involve the veterans
already recorded and perhaps, find new sources for recording.
The Memory Collection If you would like to
contribute to our living memories archive please contact Julia Hodson
(Head of Visitor Services ) or keep in touch through our website as we get

DALEK INVASION! Prepare to
have the living daylights scared out of you! Only the brave should visit
the Museum on Aug 10th. The security staff at RNAS Yeovilton have been
placed on a state of high alert as we have been advised that a full army
of twelve Daleks led by the dreaded Black Dalek and accompanied by
menacing Cyber Men and Ice Warriors plan to invade the Museum and
terrorise the public. A Dr Who exhibition will be on display with a
Tardis, Davros and K9 among the exhibits. Throughout the Museum, Dr Who
Traders and enthusiasts will be on hand and there will even be an
opportunity to attend "An Audience with a Dalek" when visitors can ask
some of the better behaved Daleks the questions on everyone's mind for
example "How do you get up stairs?". Children are encouraged to arrive
in Sci-Fi fancy dress and normal admission prices will apply. The Museum will open at 10.00am
IMPORTANT - to avoid the likelihood of entry queues,
we strongly recommend that tickets are purchased prior to the event by
visiting the Museum's website www.fleetairarm.com from June
18th until Sunday 27th July or by visiting the Museum's ticket office in
person.
