April 'Corsair KD431-The Timecapsule Fighter'- This book tells in great detail
the full story of KD431 and the ground breaking project that has seen this
aircraft returned to its original 1944 condition. Corsair KD431 was re-painted
in 1963. In 2000, the Fleet Air Arm Museum's aircraft conservation team carried
out an in-depth research and restoration programme that painstakingly removed
this paint layer (inch-by-inch) to expose the original World War II finish
beneath. Many rare and unique markings and details were exposed and preserved,
and KD431 is now believed to be the last Corsair known to exist in totally
original condition. The book covers areas of Corsair history and development (in
some cases challenging previously held beliefs), extensive detail of the
restoration itself and also individual interviews with Corsair pilots.
The
210 page book is lavishly illustrated with over 160 photographs, drawn from
various archives and sources, as well as many specially commissioned colour
detail images of the restoration from start to finish.
