Women’s RN Service
This exhibition charts the history of the Women's Royal Naval Service from 1917 - 1986.
The Women's Royal Naval Service was formed in 1917 and disbanded after the Armistice in 1918. It was re-established in the Second World War and became a permanent service after the war. When, on the principle of equal opportunities, women were absorbed into the Royal Navy in 1993, the WRNS ceased to exist.
